>He NEEDS to put a link right on the home page. KURT--ARE YOU LISTENING?

I am, Mike - can't see the trees for being lost in the forest. The
link is there now.

And yes, the endpapers appear in the hardback version only. Mike
[Sherman] and I felt that the anyone who shelled out an additional
$21 deserved more than a hard cover, our autographs and a number from 1 to 500.

We had a great deal of fun putting this book together; Mike has been
working on the revision for years. Can you believe that he called me
10 years ago saying that he wanted to have it ready for Victor's
100th anniversary? Obviously, that wasn't going to happen. But I
think that the intervening years have only added to the overall
quality of the volume.

Last April, Mike flew down to Fort Nauck's and we spent three days
going through records. Over the years, I had added stuff to my
collection that was so esoteric, once Mike saw it, I said, "OK, now
the only other person in the world who cares about it has seen this
label. Now I can finally get rid of it!" Unfortunately, much of what
we wanted to include had to be left out due to space limitations. We
went to press with 288 pages - in order to economically add any more,
we would have had to go with another 32 page signature, which would
have been too much. As it was, costs still ran much higher than
originally planned, but fortunately, sales have been very strong.

Sherman and I submitted a proposal to give a presentation at the UCLA
ARSC meeting in May - if our proposal gets accepted, we will show how
the book was compiled and bring along some of the records that
couldn't be included. We will also bring some of the treasures that
WERE pictured so people can see them in the flesh. (I think you saw
some of them when Leah came down to film her recumentary.)

Thanks for your invaluable help with the appendix on decoding
Victor's matrix numbers, and for some of the pattern labels that you
and Vince Giordano dug up - those are very important parts of the
book, and we are indebted to you (and others) for your assistance
with the project. It was truly a collaborative effort, and are most
appreciative of the many collectors who provided labels, knowledge
and editorial guidance.
