"Living with her family in Beverly Hills, Ms. Whiting attended a Roman 
Catholic private girls' school and enjoyed a gilded childhood, frolicking at 
lavish parties with movie stars and music legends, among them Mercer, Arlen 
and Jerome Kern, whom she called Uncle Jerry."
