A used cow lot...?!

Same reason we don't see dogs**t and cats**t in TV shows about
pets...?! Because we humans developed indoor plumbing (and thus
flush away our own "leavings"...?!)...we generally ignore the reality
that our livestock/pets also leave "traces"...?!

Easier to answer! Horses were used for transportation until Ford's
(Henry, NOT Rob!) Model T became a standard mode of transport.
Since horses spent a lot of time on paved streets (unlike cattle!),
their hooves needed protection from the wear occasioned by
paved city streets!
