[78-L] radio

Salt Creek airs Sundays, 6-10 AM eastern time. I DJ only one show in five, on average, and am the only one playing 78s as far as I am aware. I will probably do Feb. 7th edition.

WVBR-FM streams live at wvbr.com (8-second delay), but there is no archive or podcast. Playlists for Salt Creek are posted on the FOLKDJ-L listserve archives http://lists.psu.edu/archives/folkdj-l.html which are searchable.

Content : we play from most of the fingers on the glove of country music including old-school country, old-time, bluegrass, cajun & zydeco, gospel & sacred, country blues, on up to alt.country, but we stay away from top-40 country (they have plenty of airplay elsewhere). Salt Creek's been a constant presence in Ithaca NY since 1964. Ken Irwin of Rounder Records was one of our early DJs.

I have indeed played from many never-reissued, and some unique, recordings, and am sure to point that out that fact to the listeners. Who listens at 6 AM? I am constantly surprised that they are many, and not all dairy farmers in Candor or Speedsville.

Are you streaming on the net and what time is your show?

Well, I play 78s on my show (Salt Creek, WVBR-FM Ithaca) sometimes, sort
of: I digitize them first. The station's turntable has a 78 speed but I
would be required to bring my own cartridge and swap it out. I'd rather
digitize it (and can clean up the sound a little that way too). I was going
to play a Peanut Faircloth 78 last Sunday, but couldn't lay hands on it in
time.

Maybe one of these days I will actually lug a box o' shellac to the studio
and spin them for a while.

Is anyone in the group aware of any terrestrial radio shows that still
play 78s?
I know about the Antique Phonograph Program on WFMU. Are there any others?
