Being a mobile DJ is one of the arrows in the quiver of my checkered career.
Last night I played a party at a restaurant which had a crowd of mixed ages from very young to "mature".

I can proudly state to the 78 group that among the GaGa, Pitbull and Pink tracks, I sneaked in four 78 era songs. No, I didn't bring the originals but used my mp3 transfers.

1.....someone called for a cab and when it arrived I played the Mills Brothers singing "Cabdriver"

2.....I brought in the New Year with Guy Lumbago's Auld Lang Syne

3.....When someone asked for some big band songs I played Harry James' "You Made Me Love You" and the original Glenn Miller "In the Mood"

Surprisingly, even the 20-somethings flocked to the floor for the last two tunes. I announced the Harry James with a comment that "it may be hard for you young ones to believe, but this song was bigger than anything by Lady GaGa."

I wonder if 60 or so years down the line will people still be dancing to "Poker Face" and "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho remix)".

So fellow list members, Happy New Year. May the best day of 2010 be the worst of 2011. Thank you for your informative and entertaining postings to this group, and for being so generous with your knowledge and passion for the recordings and music of the past century.
