Some additional tech info on the Nov.7, 1940 recording of the entire\
dance of the Duke Ellington Orch. by Jack Towers at the Crytal Ballroom in
Fargo, N.D.
(Parts of the dance were broadcast by station KVOX, Moorehead, Minnesota.)
The music was recorded by the PrestoY recorder using three mikes onto 16"
aluminum based "acetates" at 33 1/3 rpm from the inside out.
The mikes were an RCA 77c; an RCA Pressure Dynamic (solos) and an RCA
Junior Velocity (ribbon) near the piano(on all the time)
There were 2 mike inputs on the Presto plus a pre-Amp plugged onto an
additional remote input on the Presto.
This dance took place two days after Franklin Delano Roosevelt's re-election
to a third term.
It was Ray Nance''s first night with the band and he takes his first solo on
"The Mooche"
There are several tunes which were omitted from the 1990 Jack Towers
re-mastered version.
Omitted from the top of the third set were "Flaming Sword", "Never No
Lament" and Clarinet Lament".
