Then there was that recording I heard years ago of "Bell Bottom Trousers" which 
featured the
tenor sax Herbie Haymer.Whomever the vocalists were did a great impression of 
Popeye and
Olive Oyl.I think it dated from around 1945.The number was on an album called 
"Screballs of
Swing Time".

Aside from the very funny characters and clowning by the band this was a 
superbly musical orchestra with first class musicians.
It presented  fine solo work, a killer of an ensemble sound and first class 
charts..
I find it one of the best of the swing era "gangs"
As you say JD, his films were very good and very energetically kooky.. (is 
that a state of being?)
I'm a dedicated fan of  few swing bands but this is definitely one of them.
