I used to have...and used for 20-odd years...a mid-20's sofa
upholstered in wool "mohair." I bought it back in Illinois at a
farm auction (for $5, IIRC)...it had been covered with "slip
covers" during its existence, so the original upholstery
was still in perfect condition. Sadly, wear, tear and hungry
moths effectively destroyed it; my plans were to have it
restored (the mohair is now sold for automobile restoration).
It was the "high point" of my living room when it was still
in good shape...!
Back in those days I owned an old half-ton pickup; I used
to frequent farm auctions around central Illinois. This was
back in the sixties...and only victorian items were thought
to be "antiques!" I bought a number of twenties pieces,
usually for next to nothing, so my house was of the same
era as ny records...!
