"George" Clarke is a typesetter/proofreader's error for Gerald (Fitzgerald) Clarke.

The violinist is Victor Pacheco, a Cuban.

Gerald Clarke's group was resident at the Village Vanguard in the late 1930s, saving the club from going under.  Max Gordon's autobiography sells this short, but he confirmed this to me.  This was also confirmed by contemporary New York newspaper accounts./steve
