I had a few of those "Living Language" sets:one in Russian,Spanish and
Japanese. They sold for around $10 new.I found mine either at the now defunct Pay
Less Drugs in North Bend,Oregon and a couple of
them at thrift stores. They were alright they were better than the ALM series
that was used at my allma
mater,North Bend High School in North Bend,Oregon. That was back in 1969.I still
have one-in Russia-
n-I gave $5.00 for several years ago.The ones I had in Spanish and Japanese are
long gone.I use a coup-
le of CD-ROM(31 and 35 different languages)sets.I gave around $10 for those.I
haven't seen the "Living
Language" sets in at least 30 years.

Living Language was the name to a widely sold series of 10-inch LP sets in the
sixties, marketed through local newspapers. These things turn up everywhere,
usually with only the first disc played. No connection with Columbia sets that
I'm aware of. The Columbia 78 sets each consisted of 20 discs in two volumes,
with dictionary and manual..this from the 1949 catalog. No individual disc
numbers given, sorry. (Never heard of these sets before!)

I suppose it's vaguely possible that the same master recordings could have been
used for the LP sets, but those are all ten-inch discs, 4 to a box, 4 tracks
per side as I recall. Unless some sides were omitted, the Columbia sets would
require twelve-inch discs with 5 cuts per side.
