In the fifties we used to place orders for records from HMV such as
you describe. One had to order by number and often one didn't know
what would be pressed. We sometimes used numbers that were were
between known issue numbers to try to find unpublished records. There
was a minimum number one had to order. I've forgotten what we paid.
Some that I have are Melbas and Pattis.
