Dagnabbit! I got it wrong! It wasn't Larry Tice, it was Darol Rice who played bass clarinet on "Sixteen Tons." But fear not, intrepid Ernie Ford fans, Tice was on a session playing clarinet two years before, when Ford recorded "Catfish Boogie" and "Kiss Me Big." Recorded 8/19/53, so I wasn't far off.
