I've just ordered mine. Now I'm wondering if I want to make a silicone
impression of one of the sides and pour it up in epoxy to make a steel
needle-playable version. I'm not sure how an Orthophonic sound box will
react to a stereo groove. It would also allow playing on a less than light
30s-40s crystal pick up.

Subject: [78-L] Newly-pressed Bix Beiderbecke 78

After dreaming about it for years, I have finally recorded and
released a 78 rpm record (well, two of them actually!). Last fall,
while preparing my second full-length CD, I recorded all four of Bix
Beiderbecke's piano solos ("In a Mist," "Candlelights," "Flashes," and
"In the Dark"), and decided that the pieces would make a nice 2-record
78 rpm set. Artist Joe Busam designed a beautiful cover reminiscent of
those late 1920s Columbia sleeves. He also designed 1920s-style
labels, and even 1920s-style inner sleeves. I negotiated with one of
the world's top audiophile vinyl pressing plants (in the Netherlands)
to handle the actual manufacture of the records, which themselves are
meant to replicate the look and feel of a 1920s-era 78 as closely as
possible, with no lead-in groove and using somewhat heavier vinyl than
usual. I'm very pleased with the results, and I hope that the records
will be of some interest to a few folks here.
