According to Nat Shapiro's "Popular Music" series, it was published in 1925,
so by inference that it was written either in the same year, or sometimes,
the previous year.
You probably already know this but Shapiro says it was adapted from an old
Buddy Bolden New Orleans song known both by ST. LOUIS TICKLER and BOY IN THE
BOAT.
