[78-L] They're still futzing around with fake stereo

And it's Deutsche Grammophon doing the futzing, meine damen und herren. I just
acquired a two-disc DG set of the Jascha Heifetz Decca recordings, knowing that
it couldn't possibly be any worse than the disastrous NoNoise mess put out in
1990 by MCA Classics. And the basic sound is very good, although surprisingly
full of rumble and disc noise from the original lacquers. But the surprise, not
revealed till you see it in the booklet, is the words
"These are original MONO recordings to which discreet stereo ambiance has been
added in order to enhance the sound."
Actually not that offensive, and it vanishes in mono. Looks as if they didn't
do new transfers from the lacquers since that rumble is also audible on the LPs.
