[78-L] NY Times article and video about the Bill Savory collection

I had the good fortune of going to Chicago to inventory, take pictures of
the labels and sleeves and pack all the Savory discs onto a truck which we
then drove back to NY. Off the top of my head, the wealth of Goodman items
made up over half of the collection. There were some Mildred Bailey from
'34, a couple of Glenn Miller items, Martin Block Saturday Night Swing
Sessions, John Kirby and Larry Clinton (Savory was a fan of tenorman Tony
Zimmer). He also recorded weddings and phone conversations some of which
took up multiple discs. I have pictures of wooden crates that some of the
discs were in, that were nailed shut for God knows how long. And yes, there
was much in the way of science projects going on inside these crates as
water had made its way inside. There was one in particular where we just had
to walk outside and get some air it was so bad.

Bill S had uncoated discs, coated discs, regular transcription discs and a
handful of commercial 78s. And since he was married to Helen Ward, there
were boxes of ephemera including a program from the BG / Louis tour of '53
where Helen had both bands autograph it for her. Some photographs as well.

There's no immediate plan to issue anything on Mosaic yet as we are in the
process of obtaining some sort of clearance on them.
