*The* standard format for spreadsheet data exchange is
the .csv file.  Any spreadsheet or database application
can import or (in the case of two-dimensional tables)
export data in that format.  Plus, it's plaintext so
it can usually be edited much easier than the data
in a spreadsheet can.
