Also, Japanese music was of interest to US GI's because it was UNLIKE 
anything
they had ever heard...! German music, like virtually all European music, was
nowhere near as unusual; in fact, German records had been imported or
released on US "ethnic" series/labels from the early 1900's onward.

Having served in the USAF in Germany 1967-1970, the only "unusual" records
I saw were a few which had slightly different sets of tracks than their US
counterparts (i.e. the German edition of one Jimi Hendrix LP included "Red
House," which was NOT on the US issue!). I also bought a number of blues
compilation LP's issued in Germany; however, I found and purchased
those records "on the economy" in German record stores.

Sadly, I no longer own any of my LP's (long, very sad story...!).
