Didn't AFRS use the same sort of system used for editing Vitaphone discs 
in the late twenties? By the time they went to sound-on-film, the Warners 
engineers had developed a very advanced system for mechanically counting 
revolutions, which they could pre-set to set up a whole bank of discs for 
dubbing to a final recording.
