X was indeed used for 12" LPs right into the 70s. Y was used for 16-inch transcriptions, Z for 7-inchers whether 33 or 45. The one prefix I can't figure is F which sometimes precedes XLP or LP around 1950..on the Benny Goodman Carnegie Hall Concert, for example. FXLP means what? Fine Margin Control, maybe?
