Not any more.  The Gramophone Company changed their main label name to
His Master's Voice, and the company name to EMI, in 1930 or 31.  I don't
think they ever claimed the word itself alone was a trademark,
especially since they explicitly allowed Compton MacKenzie to name his
magazine The Gramophone.

I haven't build them yet, but I got several of these kits last year, and
also have their cylinder machine kit which records on plastic cups. 
I've recorded on a CD with a regular disc cutter, and it does not work
well.  Polycarbonate crumbles rather than cuts.

No, 78-L members use our Thai Slave Girls for all machine cranking. 
This tradition goes back to the 1990s.
