Also, take note that they play best with a microgroove stylus even when they're cut standard groove (they switched to microgroove in the early 50s and those have a small "x" next to the catalog number). Inner groove distortion is horrible on those things with a larger stylus but they sound quite decent with the smaller tip. I've used some of the Count Basie and Patti Page discs for CD projects.

> I have a large collection of Lang-Worth 8-inch discs that I rescued from a television/radio station in upstate New York. In addition to the discs (I think there are around 700 of them), I got the steel storage filing cabinet that they came in along with a catalog in a binder. Took a lot to ship it all home to California, but I have it in a storage unit now - next time I'm up there, I'll get the binder and give everyone the lowdown on how they're organized. Most of the ones I have are easy listening dance orchestra pieces, but there are also a good number of jazz and big band reissues and hillbilly music. I've been meaning to catalog what I've got for some time now; maybe this is the opportunity to do so.

I have several hundred of these discs, but one random pile (not separated into categories) contains PC (Pop Concert Orchestra), SS (Salon and Light Music), OR (some violin solos but with organ accompaniment, hence OR). There are also yellow labels on many..white for ASCAP publications and yellow for non-ASCAP. Lang-Worth was founded in anticipation of the problems the radio industry was eventually going to have with ASCAP in the early 40s.
