If you want chopped liver, Brent's deli is the place to go in L.A.

Too bad my wife's aunts don't live there any more..we used to love crashing at their place and borrowing one of their cars and going to the beach (or, once in a while, record hunting..an activity I've sworn off several thousand times this past month while unpacking hundreds of boxes of records I swear I've never seen in my life, but which all came from my garage..along with mouse poop and chewings and peanut shells left by the other wildlife that bunked with us in our previous house). One interesting record that emerged this morning is a copy of the NMQR disc David Lewis wanted for his presentation. Better late than never.

I remember walking back and forth between a couple of presentations that I wanted to see, as well as having free time when two dogs were on at the same time. I also remember missing David Diehl's presentation (that was in Philly, I think) because it got moved to an early morning time slot without my knowing it.

I will add that I fought fiercely against the use of concurrent conferencepresentation scheduling, but when I was off the board they went to it, and it has led to a lesser amount of unity in the group And a greater amount of missing presentations. The are some like the Little Wonder session I have to watch on my videotape because several people have told me I need to check out some statements that I might have questioned if Ihad been at that session. We found out on the web while in transit that the Jimmie Rodgers museum was closed Sun & Mon and if the brochure had said that we would have gone on the way down Wed like db did. We went to take pictures anyway and wonder how he found the place because we hit all kinds of blocked roads with detours and a train blocking yet another road! Question -- would it jhave been worth the 8 bucks admission each?

I watched no television, turned on no computers, and basically submerged myself in the NOLA scene. I'll gather my thoughts together later this week and give a report, but suffice to say, it was a whole lotta fun.

The administrators and attendees exuded a warmth which was palpable. I got to meet lots of new friends and people who had only been names to me, like Cary, Seth Winner, Doug Pomeroy, Kurt Nauck III and particularly Mike and Leah Biel. These last two I met briefly at the 2004 conference but this time we had extended chats about everything phonographic, particularly for about 3 hours after the final night's banquet, and I discovered an affability which can only be appreciated in person.
