In recent postings, mention was made of the Sauter-Finegan “Extended
Play Suite” and that some of its parts were issued on 7-inch
extended-play discs. I have copies of “Child’s Play” Parts 1 and 2 and
“Horseplay” Parts 1 and 2” on 10-inch vinyl 78s. I don’t have the
“Child’s Play” disc in front of me, but I do have my copy of
“Horseplay.” Both sides have labels with white fields and black type
for general information. In red type are the words “Promotion Disc” and
“from Sauter-Finegan album “Extended Play Suite” centered beneath the
spindle hole. Stacked and centered at the top of the label is RCA
Victor/SPECIAL/Not for Sale. Printed in parentheses to the right of the
spindle hole is (EPA-447), with E3-VB-0690 centered beneath on side 1.
On side 2, it is E3-VB-0691. I got this at auction; I was the only
bidder. Years ago, I acquired most of the RCA black-label 78s. Over the
years, I’ve acquired most of the LPs, including one United Artists LP
WWR-3516 “Pops—Sauter-Finegan” not listed in the last Goldmine Jazz
Albums. One of my favorite 78s is “Nina Never Knew,” with vocal by Joe
Mooney
