I have always wondered why people bought Nauck's $2000 lithograph copies of the Nipper
painting. Admitted, they were on strong cardboard with imitated painting structure.
But in places like Singapore, Bangkok and others in SE Asia you can have genuine oil
paintings copied as from $80. You'll find the places in any large shopping mall. A real
good, detailed original size copy of the Nipper painting would not cost more than $500.
Anyway, none of the oil paintings I saw were priced in excess of $200. So, if you provide
these 'artists' with a good poster to work from, and if you have some control over the
resulting quality, you can have several good copies made...
... before they start producing them and selling them on their own from a conveyor belt.
