I guess a better choice of words would have been headshell but in this case, the cartridge is mounted on a "platform" the cartridge was mounted on.You released the "headshell" with a lever.I had several different 'Duals that used that setup. My first being a circa 1968 Dual 1019 I bought at a Salvation Army thrift store
back in early 1982 in Coos Bay,Oregon.I also bought an old Heathkit AA-15 integrated amp along with it.I had it repaired and used it for many years and until in internal short stopped it around 1993.It was good
but I wouldn't use it now due to the vast improvements in audio amplifiers and receivers in the last fifteen y-
ears.

I don't know what you mean by "the platform for the tone arm." Do you
have the guts of a turntable without a cabinet? If so, you might be
able to buy or build a cabinet. In looking at oBoy I see a Dual 1210
wooden base for a buy-it-now price of $29.95.

I wouldn't spend too much to get this turntable working. Dual
turntables are pretty easy to find, and are usually inexpensive.
There are several Duals on oBoy right now - for example, a model 1019
with a current high bid of $32.

The two most popular brands of cartridge for 78s are Shure and
Stanton. I use the Stanton 500 myself - it has the advantage that
many different sizes of styli are easily available.
