Regarding HRS December 1938, Julian Vein asks: “In England the 
Parlophone issue is one of the most common jazz 78s
around! Were the HRS reissues master pressings?”

The HRS J. C. Higginbotham issues were master pressings but most of the 
HRS reissues were quality dubs, as is indicted by the “P-” matrix 
prefix. I have a complete run of all the HRS subscription series 
releases plus some of the same issues on the yin-and-yang label and am 
quite pleased with the playback results.
