Thanks for that helpful advice Geoff.   Since my posting I see there is also a full year (from January 1948) of 'The Jazz Finder'.    These magazines do have some fascinating snippetts of Jazz News and data,

Russell Barnes says and asks: “I'm sorting through a collection of Jazz
Magazines (American and a few UK) - which, in the main, are sixty years
old.  I'm wondering what interest there is in these (EBay etc).

'The Jazz Record' - fifty copies commencing with number one - February
15th, 1943.

A few 'The Jazz Session' from November, 1944.

A  run of  thirteen 'Playback' from March 1949.

A run of seven 'Clef' from March 1946.

Any views appreciated,”

I don’t know “The Jazz Session” but do know the other three. John
Tefteller was recently auctioning issues of  Jazz Record. MB was $9.99
on each. If I recall correctly he did not get bids on most of what he
offered. I recently purchased the April Clef on e-bay for $15.50, so
that may give you an idea of price. I paid that to complete my run of
issues. Playbacks are also offered from time to time on e-bay. Check
Tefteller to see if he has any on his current auction which ends today.
Jazz Record, Playback, and Clef are all very helpful “little” jazz
magazines. Lots of great information for research purposes! The
earliest Jazz Records are hardest to find (1-15). Last year and this, I
bought a cumulative total of nearly a complete run of Jazz Records from
16-60 for $1 each. Admittedly, I was lucky! Clefs are hard to find.
Most collectors have never heard of the magazine.
