[78-L] Stylus size

I have about half-and-half Stantons and Expert Pickups and 3.5 mils from both. The Stanton products are a bit more truncated than the Expert Pickups. If you have a low-to-middling end tonearm, the Expert Pickup stylii are less easily thrown by needle drops and the various other indignities of the V+ 78's we often have to deal with. The Stantons pick up less of the grunge in the bottom of the groove and more of the pops and ticks of the surface scratches which are easily dealt with by software. I use the SME 3012 arm with fluid damping; it tracks like a mountain goat so I prefer the Stantons but they are both very fine products. I seem to recall Seth Winner telling me he used an 8 mil stylus on some of Favia-Artsay's pre-grooved RCA home recordings.

I have a genuine Stanton 2.1 TE and a 2.0 TE from Nauck's source (Expert?). There are differences, as you'd expect. But I don't have the same size from both manufacturers. Incidentally, I've had the Stanton stylus for at least 10 years and it still performs beautifully.dlneechevoneeznayou at gmail.com wrote:> Would there be a difference in Stanton 2.1 TE and any other kind?
