Sure would be nice to have more info from the label... like what label
it's on!
I think it's The M-A-U-I Islanders - otherwise known as the M-A-U-I
Eilanders - who recorded pre-war and during WW2 in the Netherlands. The
last session I have by them was made in September 1951. I had not heard
this recording before. Nice!
Han de Willigen was the leader and electric steel guitarist. The band
recorded "Tahuahuai" twice, in their first recording session on December
1939 in the Netherlands and on a later session of October 1945, on Decca
80066, recorded in Brussels. This would be the second session, as the
first had no vibraphone player.
The line up is Han de Willigen (as Harry Willing), ldr, esg, v; Eddy
Doorenbos, plectrum guitar, v; Bob van der Houven, plectrum guitar, v;
Wim Beck, ukulele; Piet Kakebeeke, bass, v; Piet van der Houven, vibes.
Pretty good for a bunch of artists who never made it to Hawaii! I like
this group.
