Sounds like one of those "Bixing" stories, the one where Bix was playing
at a club with Benny Goodman. In the middle of his solo, Bix collapsed
and Goodman managed to grab his horn and continue the solo without
missing a beat!

Back in the sixties Dankworth was charged with a speeding offence which
he denied. He said he had perfect pitch and could tell by the sound of
the engine whether he was going over the speed limit. He still got
fined. (This was reported in at least one newspaper at the time.)

In early 1957 Lionel Hampton gave a charity concert at the Royal
Festival Hall in London, for victims of Apartheid. Seems Hamp didn't get
down to serious improvising because, during his performance, Dankworth
shouted out: "Why don't you plays some jazz!?"
