THat's why I bought the 2nd Robert Johnson box set
when a 78 is played on a turntable. I like that
ecord hiss!! It doesn't bother me at all & should be left intact on
D issues

Subject: [78-L] Silence (no 78 hiss) on CD issues
I just borrowed Stardust Memories: Hoagy Carmichael And Friends from
he city library & am playing in the computer and there is only the
sual 78 RPM record hiss on about half of the tracks. On the rest
here is no hiss at all which I find to be very disturbing &
nnatural While each track is well transferred (it's an RCA Victor
D) they are also filtered very well for the usual clicks & pops. The
qualization seems to be good too. I hate to be a purist but I wish
hey wouldn't filter down or take completely out the hiss we
ollectors hear when a 78 is played on a turntable. I like that
ecord hiss!! It doesn't bother me at all & should be left intact on
D issues.......
