I have this disc also. According to John Buchanan's book on Watters, these were recordings made at a series of Sunday afternoon sessions at the CIO Hall on Golden Gate Avenue in San Francisco, either during January or February of 1944. The recordings were made by David Rosenbaum, a member of the Hot Jazz Society of San Francisco, in response to a successful engagement by Bunk Johnson with members of the Lu Watters band at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art on December 12, 1943. Watters was still in the service at this time and didn't return to recording until 1946. Johnson would later say that it was the best band he ever played with after his comeback in 1942. Possibly due to the AFM strike, Rosenbaum did not issued the records, but after Good Time Jazz was formed, Turk Murphy tipped off Lester Koenig as to their existence and Koenig bought the masters from Rosenbaum. They were issued on the GTJ 10' LP L-17 (as Bunk Johnson & the Yerba Buena Jazz Band) as well as on GTJ 78s (Catalog #s 34, 37, 38, & 63). Titles include:

LK 190-2 Nobody's Fault But Mine

LK 190-2 When I Move to the Sky (for some reason, the master # is the same as the previous title)

LK 205 The Girls Go Crazy

LK 20 Ory's Creole Trombone

CAV 112 2:19 Blues

CAV 113 Ace in the Hole

LK 231 Careless Love

LK 232 Down By the Riverside

Personnel includes: Bunk Johnson (t, v), Turk Murphy (tb), Ellis Horne (cl), Burt Bales (p), Pat Patton (bj), Squire Girsback (sb), Clancy Hayes (d, v), and Sister Lottie Peavey (v.) Bunk sings on "Down By the Riverside" - Hayes on "2:19 Blues" and "Ace in the Hole" and Peavey on "Nobody's Fault But Mine" and "When I Move to the Sky."

Lottie Peavey was a member of the Emanuel Church of God in Christ, who had sung at the December 1943 concert.

The CIO sessions were eventually abandoned following many months of disputes with the AFM, who objected to six white musicians playing with Johnson.
