I remember when "Jazz Journal" editor Burnett James reviewed "Bix, Man & 
Legend, by Richard M. Sudhalter and Phillip R. Evans" in the 70s. To 
paraphrase, he said: "This book strips away the legends, but sometimes 
I've been happy to live with the legends."
