[78-L] One's taste in music is similar to taste in tooth paste. You can't argue about it.

You wouldn't want to know my friends then - normal is way beyond the borders of this lists' etiquette. Blassie, King of Men is closer.

As for 78s, Wild Bill Moore's Savoy of We're Gonna Rock, We're Gonna Roll certainly qualifies as a rock and roll record, no? I suppose that there is always the route of rock and roll which is different from rock 'n roll, which is different from rock & roll, which is different from rock, etc; I'm more interested in what I perceive as 'quality' than I am genre.

As for big bands of the '50s, keep in mind that more than one of them stayed solvent in the '50s by working as opening acts and backing groups for revues with singers aimed at a younger audience; there were also the refugees like Sam The Man, Big Al, Budd Johnson, Heywood Henry, Dud Bascomb, etc. who found successful niches for themselves arranging and playing in the studio.

I don't have a problem exchanging opinions. It's when things get personal (e.g. "You don't know what you're talking about!" "What ignorance!" etc.) that I get riled up. There are no definitive answers to opinions, like "the first rock and roll record," "how good was '50s pop," or anything else, except how worthless "Near You" by Francis Craig on Bullet is. That is just a fact.
