[78-L] Pop Music thgru 1955(ish)

I always liked Stuart Hamblen's recording of "This Ole House" also. One can appreciate "pop gospel" music without necessarily being religious. Hamblen was VERY religious, by the way. Sometimes you have to appreciate different kinds of music on different levels. The pop songs of the early '50s were very well crafted. The novelties are the ones that can get on your nerves, like "Doggie in the Window." But one song that has really been defamed is "Come on-a My House." Rosemary Clooney hated the song, but it jump-started her career. I always loved Stan Freeman's hopping harpsichord and was absolutely delighted when I found his Columbia 10" LP "Come on-a Stan's House," which features rocking boogie-woogie jazz instrumentals played on the harpsichord. One of my favorite LPs.
