Establishing accurate playing speeds for "78's" has been an issue among
collectors
for MANY decades! Also, later 78's are sometimes NOT recorded at 78.26 rpm;
I set out to try playing harmonica (generally in perfect key...?!) to Fats
Waller's
"Your Feets Too Big" and discovered that it played back (supposedly at "78")
at about "E flat and a quarter...?!
IMHO, record companies weren't terribly concerned whether their records
were cut at EXACTLY 78.26 rpm; the only purchasers who cared about
the accuracy of recording speeds were a few musicians who intended to
play along with the records they bought!!
