And don't forget the puzzle records (already mentioned by dl) which had
2, 3, or 4 separate interlaced grooves.

These were continuous with the sound groove.  However many records had a
separate protection groove around the outside of the label.

As dl mentioned, the feedscrew would pull the reproducer along.  The
same is true of Edison Diamond Discs.
