Thanks to all who have commented on "Spoken word records" -- sorry about the
typo. "Word" not "Work."

When I wrote this I was not thinking of commercial records. My mind was
wandering over the whole field, from "Jim Lawson's Hogs" to "A reporter
remembers: Edward R. Murrow" and more.
I am a collector of "old time radio", so some of that spilled over. The
Franklyn McCormick sides were pressed by someone. I have a cassette copy of
an NBC symphony broadcast with Toscanini, 1943. I think it came from an LP,
maybe issued by RCA Victor. Got it from a trader on this list. I have a lot
of NYPSO broadcasts on reels, but at the time I only wanted the music, so I
recorded no commentary. One exception: on the death of Winston Churchill I
did record the entire tribute as broadcast on the NYPSO program.

Authors/poets reading their own works crept into my notes. I still enjoy
the music of Sandburg's voice. Not all poets can read their own stuff well.
In my experience, Dylan Thomas and Carl Sandburg stand out as excellent
readers of their own material.
I am unfamiliar with the Muzak discs. Looks like they might be wonderful
additions.
My house is so full of OTR, etc. that I may have to stop collecting -- or
get another house just to store this stuff in! I am trying to give away my
cassettes of OTR. Northern State University was interested, until the last
director retired. The new interim director seems not to be interested. Will
check with the local public library.
