It was great that you brought them back. At estate sales when I find these I usually ask if a family member is around to talk with them about what they might be getting rid of. They're fun to listen to but really do belong with the family if they want it. I'm surprised the number of times people could care less. But then sometimes they are ecstatic to know about it. One time they started screaming happily about "that's the lost recording of ..."

I was flabbergasted when I first heard this. I was certain it was too ruined to record, but there was enough to make it important. This came in a box full of home recordings accompanying a Recordio console I bought from a couple at an estate sale here in Portland. I recorded about 40 of these old home records and took them back to the folks I bought it from. Turns out these were recorded by the wife's parents before she was born and covered about a 10 year period from 1941 to 1952, including the birth announcement of her older sister. She was very happy to get them, she had no idea what was on the records.
