It's "terp", as in "terpsichorean", after Terpsichore, the Greek goddess of dance. Hipster publicist slang for "dance record".

Subject: [78-L] Billboard review: interpretation
Folks,
this question is for someone with better eyes than I have. I read the snappy review in Billboard for a polka disc by Ray Henry & his Orchestra, but I can't make out one of the words.

RAY HENRY ORK
"Dream Valley"
DANA 3059 - Unusual accordion solo sparks this striking instrumental polka disking. A spirited hunk of ?(something)? wax.
"Play Ball Polka"
More fine instrumental wax.

I can make a guess, but I'm wondering what other people see this word as being.
