Oh my god, he obviously missed out on the "No child left behind" education program. How Sad. Thanks for confirming what I thought all along.

The guy in the YouTube comments is delusional. He's gotten confused by the movie "The Legend of 1900", which features a CHARACTER named 1900 who plays a piano duel against Morton, in the year 1926 -- which is a much more appropriate time for Morton. I'm not sure exactly when Morton's first recordings were, but they were in the early 20s, not the naughts. The Morton song he claims is from 1900, "Crave", also from the 20s, is used in the film.

Generally speaking YouTube comments will destroy your faith in humanity. Absolutely rock-bottom lowest-common-denominator stuff. That guy, "theguyof1900", is barely literate -- "You know what ill try to track them down but from my understanding is that his very rarly recordings are locked in the libery of congress somwhere & but there on CD these days to & I have a few of Mortons very rarly reordings on my so called I pod witch I barrley use." Yikes.

Does anyone have any definitive information as to when Ferdinand Jelly Roll Morton first made recordings or Piano Rolls. The sites on the internet I go to says he didn't start making Piano Rolls or Records until 1923, however there is someone insisting under the comments on this site, that he started making records and piano rolls back around the turn of the last Century when he was in his teens. Can anyone shed some light on this conflict ??
