I am fairly new to appreciating classical music and actually prefer historical recordings. Maybe this is a result of my interest in old time radio combined with my historical studies. I love to hear the music of the past reaching out to us today. It also seems to be closer to the source to hear Rachmaninov playing and conducting his own work or interpreting that of others. I am continually frustrated by sources that cannot offer historical recordings on cd or mp3 because of copyright restrictions (ala Naxos). I'm constantly searching for new material in any format from pre-1950 era.

Thanks for your ear and this list.
