May I put in a timely plug here?  My wife and sister-in-law are starting an
internet-based grassroots fundraising website called
www.streamthatcause.com.  It is currently undergoing last-minute
beta-testing of the final revisions and should be on-line within 48-hours.
The concept of the website is that users get their own cause page on the
website for $39 and upload a short video to it (actually, unlimited videos
may be uploaded and archived).  By using the cause page's built-in blogging
feature, supporters are contacted and engaged via email, social networking
(Facebook & Twitter) and then pledge per-video-view (and may cap the
amount), not unlike pledges per-mile in a walk-a-thon. Supporters may also
simply donate without the video-view feature, or sponsors may donate and
upload business card info or a logo.  The cause's 'video web-a-thon event'
runs two-weeks or may be extended in one week increments at any time during
the web-a-thon for $10/week.  There is a link to set 
 up a PayPal account for the cause on the cause's page as well.  There is
also a video-view counter and goal tracking thermometer.  It is all much
simpler than I'm making it sound.  At the risk of having a conflict of
interest here, I think it would be an excellent way to organize the
fundraising for this worthy project.  By simply emailing the link to the
cause page (and for example, having Billy Murray tune videos, and/or a brief
video from our spokesperson pitching the cause and playing a Murray
recording) to all the collectors you know and asking them to pledge, donate,
sponsor, and view the videos, the money for Billy's memorial can be raised
efficiently and effectively.
