Subject: [78-L] 78s on Fibber McGee and Molly

I have recently been listening to an interesting Fibber McGee and Molly
storyline from 1955.  In one episode, Molly and Fibber see an ad from a
record collector in the paper offering to buy interesting record
collections.  Fibber (with the help of Doc Gamble and Wallace Whimple) lugs
down his old 78s from the attic with the intent to sell them to the
collector--only by the time the record collector gets around to the house,
Fibber and the gang have gotten so enthralled listening to the old discs
that they no longer want to sell.  It seems the collector has been running
into the same problem all over town!

A few episodes later, Fibber is invited by a local radio DJ to bring his old
records to the radio station for air play.  Fibber gets so worked up
gathering other items from his storied career in show business that he
forgets the records.

Throughout these few episodes we are treated to what sounds like real 78s
playing in the background, and Paul Whiteman, George M. Cohan, and
(possibly) Uncle Josh are all mentioned.  Has anybody else heard these
shows?  They are on Volume 7 of the Lost Fibber McGee and Molly available
from the First Generation Radio Archives.

I thought this was a very interesting commentary on record collecting from
the '50s.  Great listening!
