[78-L] Beginning a sentence with a preposition

I was taught at school never to begin a sentence with "and", "but" or
"or". Or is my memory playing tricks?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``
Just looking at "Messiah", which is all Biblical, (considered, if nothing more, a literary masterpiece), you have:
"And the Glory of the Lord"
"And He shall Purify"
"For unto us a Child is Born"
"And with His Stripes...."
etc. etc.
These are all in the middle of thoughts, but they are the beginnings of sentences.
And one more thing, if you use the phrase "And one more thing", it sort of has to be at the beginning of a sentence.
