The first can be "debated" by "Downtown"..."Kansas City," and its source
tune, "Piney Brown Blues," both refer to "14th (later '18th') and Vine,"
which were street crossings in the heart of KC's Black district, and thus
NOT "on the outskirts of town!"
The second depends on whether the phrase refers to"goods" which are
no longer saleable, and thus "dead in the market"...or to humans who
are defunct and thus "stone cold daid?!"
For the latter (if I remember the title right?) we can use "Livin' In a
Great Big Way!" For the former, we could cite Fats Domino's (et
al) "I'm Walkin',"since it implies a certain degree of alive-ness?!
BTW, I added "Outskirts" to my blues repertoire after I wound up
moving to Oshawa, Ont'o., which is some 40 miles east of Toronto
and thus ACTUALLY "Way out on the outskirts of town...?!)
And we can always consider Tampa Red's "Sellin' That Stuff?!"
