[78-L] Charlie Poole Tribute album from Loudon Wainwright III

I just got a neat new 2-CD set released by a small label - and distributed by YepRoc from Loudon Wainwright III (Remember "Dead Skunk"). It's an interesting tribute to Charlie Poole. Includes both songs Poole made famous as well as NEW songs composed by Wainwright and his producer which are in the style of Poole's hits or about him. Appearing with him are are his son and daughters - all well known musicians.

It's BEAUTIFULLY packaged with a nice book of color photos. YepRoc sells on their site for $17.98 (for the 2 CD set which is a great price.  (www.yeproc.com). Purists may not care for it but I sure did.

 

Also, just got word that WFUV is streaming a concert by LWIII on Monday.

He’ll be performing songs from his new project, High Wide & Handsome: A Grand Gathering Of Songs Both Old and Original, which revisits the life, times, and recorded legacy of Charlie Poole (1892-1931) – a tribute from one legendary singer and banjo picker to another.
