[78-L] Collecting hobbies and their prices...

The first issue is dated July 15, 1942. It was a single sheet, about the size of an unfolded newspaper. I guess you folded it like you would a road map. The second issue was in a standard format: 6 x 9 and stapled. The pages flipped up from the bottom. It didn't go to a standard booklet form until January 1943. All through its life, the magazine had missing issues, double issues in summertime, and fouled-up volume numbers. Until 1948, all new volumes started in March, e.g. the March 1945 issue was Vol. 4 No. 1. This got all straightened out in 1948 when they skipped issues 11 & 12 for 1947 just so they could get synched up with Vol. 1 in January. Except - there was no January 1948 issue! Just to keep on track, the Feb. 1948 issue was Vol. 7, No. 2. 

 

I have four of the 6 six issues from 1942, am missing 6 issues in 1943, but have everything else up until the last issue in 1957, which I have never seen.

 

Incidentally, Gene Deitch, the creator of the famous "Cat" cartoons, which started with the January 1946 issue, is still working as an animator in Poland. He will be 85 this fall. I chat with him by E-mail often, mostly about my Jazz Man studies. He's a delightful gentleman.
