More about dancing to Victor 78's early on...

The first "dance orchestra" to appear on Victor 78's would seem to be
Joseph C. Smith's Orchestra, probably c.1918. The next was the
"Waldorf-Astoria Dance Orchestra" (playing at that hotel?!), led by
Joseph Knecht. This was in turn followed by "Nicholas Orlando's
Orchestra" in 1919. There then appeared MANY dance bands...but
my research hasn't yet reached 1920, when Paul Whiteman et al
made dance-band recordings effectively standard items...in turn
necessitating (Sir?) Brian Rust and his ADBD...?!
